ofrenda

Students in Ms. Anita Grimsley's Spanish classes and Mr. Eric Gordon's Art classes united in a project to explore the traditions of the Mexican holiday "Dia de los Muertos." Students worked on components to complete an "ofrenda" representing the vibrant cultural event. Students created the following items: Papel picado, sugar skulls, marigolds, and monarch butterflies, all of which are found on during a typical celebration of Dia de los Muertos. Students also researched, made, and built the "ofrenda". Being that the holiday is celebrated on November 1st- 2nd, it is now on display  in front of the upstairs high school office. Please take a look and read about this beautiful tradition found on the informational posters near the "ofrenda."

Thank you to our teachers and students for a wonderful cross-curricular experience that encompasses the Georgia Standards for both World Languages and Visual Arts. Projects like this show that learning at Taylor County High School is creative, engaging, and built on a foundation of high expectations.
