Through character-based education, Taylor County High School’s JROTC Program improves students’ personal well-being and gives hope for a brighter future. It is a future that Cadet Owen Hobbs, is working towards. In May of this upcoming school year, Hobbs will earn his diploma along with an option to attend Georgia Military College (GMC) in the fall of 2025. If he chooses GMC, he won’t go with a financial burden on his plate. Cadet Owen Hobbs was recently selected as one of three recipients of a Georgia Military College State Service Scholarship valued at $54,144.00. Owen Hobbs attended and completed the annual GMC JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge this past week along with eight other Taylor County High School Cadets for three days of training. The scholarship was awarded at the JCLC graduation.

GMC’s State Service Scholarship program provides full financial assistance to qualified Georgia residents who have an interest in military service as well as a quality college education. The program is funded through the Georgia General Assembly annually and provides for up to 42 new annual scholarships. Applicants must meet all requirements for enlistment into the Georgia Army or Air National Guard and must serve as an enlisted member of the Georgia Army or Air National Guard. This scholarship covers tuition, fees, room, board, uniforms and provides a stipend for books and supplies.

Application for this scholarship is through the GMC Cadet Recruiter MSG (R) Joseph Thomas. If you have further questions about the application process or any other questions about this Scholarship, please contact MSG (R) Joseph Thomas at jthomas@gmc.edu or 478-429-5470 .
